Privacy Policy
Last updated: September 7, 2026
This Privacy Policy describes how Romanticism Inference LLC ("we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, discloses, and safeguards your information when you use readvivo (the "App"), our classic-literature reading application. By downloading or using the App, you agree to the practices described in this policy.
1. Information We Collect
Using the App without an account: You can enjoy readvivo's free content without creating an account or signing in. If you only use the free content, we do not require you to log in and we do not collect personal information that identifies you.
Information you provide when you sign in: We only collect account information if you choose to sign in, and what we collect depends on the method you use:
- Email: If you sign in with your email, we collect your name, email address, and account credentials.
- Google: If you sign in with Google, we collect only the name and email address that Google provides to us — nothing else.
- Apple: If you sign in with Apple, we collect only the name and email address that Apple provides to us. Apple lets you choose not to share your email address, and if you make that choice we will not receive it.
If you contact our support team, we also collect the correspondence and any details you choose to include.
Reading activity and preferences: Your reading progress, bookmarks, library, and in-app settings are stored locally on your device. Some of this reading activity may be sent to us to help us improve the app experience — and when it is, it is not tied to your identity.
Purchases and subscriptions: All payments are processed by Apple on iOS and by Google on Android. We never receive or store your card number or any payment details. We use RevenueCat, a subscription-management service, to verify and manage your subscription status. RevenueCat receives an anonymous account identifier, your device and app-store identifiers, and your purchase and subscription history, so that we can unlock the content you have paid for and restore your purchases across your devices. RevenueCat acts on our behalf under contract and does not use your information for its own advertising.
Reports you send us: If you report a problem with an illustration, we receive the identity of that image and any optional free-text note you choose to write. Please do not include personal or sensitive information in these notes.
Information collected automatically: We collect only the minimal information needed to keep the App functioning, and this information is not tied to your identity:
- Basic device and app details (such as device type, operating system version, and app version) so we can deliver content correctly
- Crash and performance diagnostics that help us find and fix problems
- Your IP address, which we use to protect the App against abuse and which appears in our server logs. We keep server logs for 30 days and do not use them to build a profile of you.
- Non-identifying reading activity, as described above, that may be sent to us to improve the App
Because payments are processed only through Apple and Google, we never receive or store any of your payment information, and we do not use the information above to identify you personally.
Advertising identifier: readvivo shows no advertising, but we do advertise readvivo itself. To learn which of our own ads bring readers to the App, the App collects your device's advertising identifier — the Identifier for Advertisers (IDFA) on iOS, the Google Advertising ID (GAID) on Android — together with basic device information and a record of the App being installed and opened. This information is shared with Meta Platforms, Inc. for one purpose and no other: so we can tell which of our own ads for readvivo led someone to install the App. It is not shared to advertise anything else, and Meta requires it in order to attribute an install to an ad. On iOS we ask for your permission first, through Apple's App Tracking Transparency prompt, and we do not share the identifier unless you allow it. Section 4 explains the whole arrangement and how to turn it off on either platform.
2. How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect to:
- Provide and maintain your reading experience
- Remember your reading progress, library, and preferences on your device
- Respond to your inquiries and support requests
- Send important notices and service updates
- Analyze usage trends to improve the App
- Measure which of our own ads bring readers to the App, as described in Section 4
- Detect, prevent, and address technical issues and security threats
3. What We Will Never Do
We believe your data should work for you, not against you. We will never:
- Sell your information to advertisers or data brokers
- Use your information to train artificial intelligence models
- Show you advertising inside readvivo, targeted or otherwise
- Share your name, email address, account information, or anything you have read with an advertising company
The one thing we do share for an advertising purpose is your device's advertising identifier, and only so we can tell which of our own ads for readvivo brought a reader to the App. It is never shared to advertise anything other than readvivo, and never with a data broker. Section 4 explains exactly what that means and how to switch it off.
4. Advertising: An Ad-Free App, and How We Measure Our Own Ads
readvivo is committed to an ad-free experience — no banners, no pop-ups, all about reading. Because we earn no revenue from advertising, subscriptions are what keep readvivo running. If you choose to subscribe, we are deeply grateful: your support is what allows us to keep improving the App and building a product worth your time.
We do, however, run ads for readvivo itself on Meta's platforms (Facebook and Instagram), and we need to know which of those ads actually bring readers to the App. Meta cannot report that unless the App tells it that an install happened, so including the Meta SDK and sharing the advertising identifier is a required step for running app-install ads on Meta's platforms — without it, an ad we have paid for simply cannot be measured. The App therefore includes the Meta SDK, which shares the following with Meta Platforms, Inc.:
- Your device's advertising identifier — the IDFA on iOS, the GAID on Android
- Basic device and app information, such as device model, operating system version, and app version
- Automatically logged app events: that readvivo was installed, and that it was opened
We share this for that one purpose and nothing else: to see which of our own ads for readvivo led to an install. We do not share it to advertise any other product, we do not share it with any other advertiser or data broker, we do not sell it, and it is never used to build a profile of you or to change anything you see inside readvivo. Reading the App is not affected by it in any way.
We never send Meta your name, your email address, your account information, or anything you have read, and Meta is not given access to your reading activity, your notes, or your library. What Meta does with the advertising identifier and app events once it receives them is governed by Meta's own privacy policy rather than this one: as the advertising platform, it may use them to decide who is shown our ads, and for its own purposes as well as ours.
How to turn this off
You can decline this at any time, and reading is never affected:
- iPhone or iPad: the first time you open readvivo, iOS asks whether the App may track you. Choose Ask App Not to Track and the advertising identifier is never shared. To change your answer later: Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking → readvivo, and turn the switch off. Turning off Allow Apps to Request to Track on that same screen refuses it for every app at once.
- Android: Settings → Privacy → Ads → Delete advertising ID. On older versions of Android the same control is at Settings → Google → Ads → Opt out of Ads Personalization. Once deleted, apps including readvivo can no longer read the identifier.
When you decline, we do not share the advertising identifier, and Meta cannot connect an install back to your device. Meta may still receive the fact that the App was installed or opened, without any identifier attached to it, and Apple's own privacy-preserving attribution may report an anonymous, aggregated conversion that does not identify you or your device.
5. AI-Generated Features
readvivo uses artificial intelligence in two ways, and we want to be precise about which one involves anything you do.
Illustrations and narration are generated ahead of time from the public-domain literary texts themselves. Nothing about you is involved in producing them.
The in-app dictionary "Explain" feature is the only AI feature that responds to something you do. When you select a word or phrase and ask for an explanation, we send that selection, the passage it appears in, and the book title to Google's Gemini API in order to generate the explanation. We do not send your name, email address, account information, or any identifier that links the request back to you — the request reaches Google anonymously. Google does not use data submitted through the paid Gemini API to train its models, and neither do we.
You cannot direct our AI to create content. readvivo has no prompt box, no image or text generator you can steer, and no way to publish AI output to other readers. The dictionary "Explain" feature described above is the only AI output you can trigger, and it answers one fixed question about a passage in the book you are already reading. All illustrations and narration are produced by us in advance, never on your instruction.
Artwork that is not AI-generated is labelled with the artist, the time period, and the location.
AI-generated explanations, illustrations, and narration can be inaccurate or incomplete. They are aids to reading, not authoritative sources.
6. Sharing of Information
We do not sell your personal information. We share information only in the following circumstances, and any third party who receives user data is required to provide the same or equal protection of that data as described in this policy, except that Meta uses the advertising identifier for its own advertising business under its own privacy policy, as Sections 4 and 7 explain:
- Service providers: Third-party vendors who help us operate the App (for example, cloud hosting, authentication, and crash/diagnostics tools), acting on our behalf under confidentiality obligations
- App stores: Apple (iOS) and Google (Android), which process purchases and subscriptions on their own platforms
- Advertising measurement: Meta Platforms, Inc., which receives your device's advertising identifier and app install and open events for one purpose only — so we can measure our own ads for readvivo, a step Meta requires in order to run them — as described in Section 4
- Legal requirements: When required by law, regulation, or valid legal process
- Business transfers: In connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets
- With your consent: When you have given us explicit permission
We do not sell your personal information, we show no advertising inside the App, and we do not use automated decision-making that produces legal or similarly significant effects about you. Under some privacy laws, including the California Consumer Privacy Act, sharing your advertising identifier with Meta to measure our own advertising counts as "sharing for cross-context behavioral advertising." That sharing is described in Section 4, it involves the advertising identifier and app install and open events only, it happens solely so we can measure our own ads for readvivo, and you can stop it at any time using the steps in that section. Section 7 names every company we work with.
7. Third Parties We Work With
We think you should be able to see exactly who touches what. The companies below fall into three groups, and the difference between them matters.
Companies that hold your account information. Your account lives with Google Firebase Authentication, which stores your email address, your name if you provided one, and your sign-in history. If you sign in with Google or with Apple, that company handles the sign-in itself and tells us only your name and email address, as described in Section 1.
Companies that receive an identifier, but never your name or email. RevenueCat manages your subscription status. It receives an anonymous account identifier, your device and app-store identifiers, and your purchase history. It is never sent your name, your email address, or anything you have read. Meta Platforms, Inc. measures the ads we run for readvivo. It receives your device's advertising identifier, basic device and app information, and the fact that readvivo was installed and opened — and nothing else. We send it that, and only that, so we can tell which of our own ads brought a reader to the App; Meta requires it to attribute an install to an ad. It is never sent your name, your email address, your account information, or anything you have read, and you can stop the sharing entirely using the steps in Section 4. Unlike the other companies named here, Meta is an advertising platform and may use what it receives for its own purposes as well as ours, under its own privacy policy.
Companies that receive no information about you at all. Google's Gemini API generates dictionary explanations, and receives only the passage and the word you selected — with no account identifier, no device identifier, and nothing else that could connect the request to you. ElevenLabs, OpenAI, and Brave Search are used solely to produce the narration and artwork from public-domain literary texts before you ever open a book, and never receive anything about you or your reading.
Our servers, storage, and databases run on Google Cloud Platform in the United States and Canada, and this website is served by Cloudflare. Every company named above is bound by contract to protect your information to the same standard described in this policy. None of them may sell your information. Meta, as described above, is the sole exception to the rule that none of them may use your information for their own advertising, and its use is limited to the advertising identifier and app events named there.
8. Data Retention and Deletion
We keep each kind of information only as long as it is useful for the purpose we collected it for:
- Account information (name, email address): kept while your account is active, and deleted within 30 days of an account-deletion request.
- Reading progress, library, and preferences: stored on your device. While you are signed in, your reading progress and your record of finished chapters are also kept on our servers so they follow you between devices. Everything on the device is erased when you delete the App or your account; the server copy is erased when you delete your account.
- Reports you send us about an illustration, including any free-text note: kept for up to 24 months so we can fix the underlying image, then deleted.
- Server logs, including IP addresses: 30 days.
- Advertising identifier and install events shared with Meta: we do not store these ourselves; they are held by Meta under its own retention practices. Removing or resetting the identifier in your device settings (Section 4) stops any further sharing.
- Records we are required to keep by law (for example, tax or dispute records): as long as the applicable law requires.
How to delete your account
These steps are also on their own page, Delete Your readvivo Account, which you can reach without installing the App. You can delete your account and all associated personal data directly in the App:
- Open readvivo and go to the home screen.
- Open your library card — the card tucked into the right edge of the screen — to reach the account panel.
- Sign in, if you are signed out.
- Tap Delete Account and confirm the warning.
You are asked to sign in once more before the deletion runs. This is a security step that confirms the person deleting the account is the account holder.
Deletion is immediate and permanent. It removes your authentication record (your name, your email address, and the Apple, Google, or email sign-in identity behind it), the reading data held on our servers, and the reading progress and preferences stored on your device. It also ends your subscription profile with RevenueCat. If you signed in with Apple, readvivo's Sign in with Apple grant is revoked at the same time, so the App is disconnected from your Apple ID. A deleted account cannot be recovered.
If you no longer have the App installed, or you do not see a Delete Account option, email us at support@romantic-inference.com from the address on your account and we will take care of it for you. We complete verified deletion requests within 30 days, subject to any retention we are legally required to maintain. You may withdraw consent to our processing at any time.
Cancelling your subscription
Deleting your account does not cancel your subscription. Your subscription belongs to your Apple or Google purchase rather than to your readvivo account, so it keeps renewing after the account is gone. Cancel it in the store first, in the same place as any other app subscription:
- iPhone or iPad: Settings → tap your name at the top → Subscriptions → readvivo → Cancel Subscription.
- Android: Play Store → your profile icon (top right) → Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions → readvivo → Cancel subscription.
Manage Subscription in the App's account panel opens that same store page for you. Cancelling stops future renewals; you keep access until the end of the period you have already paid for. Deleting the App does not cancel billing, and we cannot cancel or refund a store subscription on your behalf.
We are always sorry to see you go, and we hope we can do better — but if this is what you want, we will honor your request.
9. Data Security
We implement appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect your personal information against unauthorized access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction. However, no method of transmission over the Internet or electronic storage is 100% secure.
10. Your Rights
Depending on your location, you may have the right to:
- Access, correct, or delete your personal data
- Object to or restrict processing of your data
- Request portability of your data
- Withdraw consent at any time
- Opt out of the sharing of your advertising identifier — see Section 4 for the steps on iOS and Android
To exercise any of these rights, contact us at support@romantic-inference.com.
11. Children's Privacy
The App is not directed to children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe we have collected information from a child under 13, please contact us immediately and we will delete it.
12. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new policy on this page and updating the "Last updated" date above.
